The performance of the tower saw blade directly determines the cutting efficiency, service life of stone processing, and the quality of processed products. Today, technicians from Sagwell will explain how pre-alloyed powder solves the problems that occur during the cutting process of tower saws.
The key to improving the performance of the tower saw blade lies in the following two points:
1. Design the Pre-Alloyed Powder Matrix Formula Based on the Characteristics of the Processed Stone
• For soft stones such as marble, the key to cutting is to avoid clogging. Therefore, it is recommended to use soft matrix formulas such as Cu-Sn base to maintain the sharpness of the blade.
• When cutting hard stones like granite, the challenge lies in significant wear. Thus, the matrix is required to have high wear resistance (e.g., Fe-Co-Cu base) to enhance the holding force on diamonds.
• Technicians from Sagwell also mentioned that cutting quartz stone and artificial stone requires balancing toughness and wear resistance. Hence, the matrix needs to be a high-strength and high-wear-resistance one (e.g., those containing tungsten carbide or Co base).
2. The Selection of the Matrix Material Itself Is Also Crucial
Ultra-fine pre-alloyed powder (particle size < 5μm) has significant advantages over ordinary alloy powder:
• Firstly, the ultra-fine material has high sintering activity and strong matrix compactness, which improves the mechanical embedding and chemical bonding force on diamonds.
• Secondly, it enables high diamond utilization and long tool service life, making it particularly suitable for cutting high-end hard stones.
• However, it should be noted that the matrix is relatively hard, which may lead to slightly poor self-sharpening. A balanced formula design is required to address this issue.

In contrast, ordinary alloy powder has the advantages of low cost and simple process, and the blade shows good initial sharpness during cutting. Nevertheless, it has many pores in the matrix and weak bonding force, which easily causes diamonds to fall off prematurely and shortens the service life.
To sum up, technicians from Sagwell pointed out: If you want to improve the cutting efficiency, service life, and processing quality of the tower saw blade, ultra-fine pre-alloyed powder is the first choice, and elements such as Sn and Cu can be added to adjust its self-sharpening. If cost control is needed, a mixture of ordinary alloy powder and ultra-fine pre-alloyed powder can be used to balance performance and economy.
