Recently, one of our customers who engaged in tower saw segments have put forward new requirements to the technicians of Sagwell: in addition to maintaining a certain level of sharpness, the segments also need a longer service life. Can high-purity iron powder help tools achieve such improvements?
Technicians from Sagwell analyzed based on customer needs:
To improve the service life of tower saw segments, a systematic solution integrating three aspects—
Material formula optimization
Structural design innovation
Precise control of manufacturing processes
—is required. This solution aims to achieve a breakthrough in service life while ensuring the yield rate and sharpness.
For example, for our tool customers, we need to analyze what kind of stone their downstream clients are cutting, such as common white granite, golden granite, or high-silicon sandstone. Different tower saw segment matrices need to be designed for different cutting objects.

The proportion of high-purity iron powder in the matrix also varies. For instance, when cutting medium-hard white granite, a matrix with higher strength is required. Compared with ordinary iron powder, high-activity iron powder can reduce the sintering temperature of the matrix. It can form pre-alloyed phases with Copper and tin in a relatively low temperature range, making the matrix more densified and improving the overall performance of the matrix.
In the next article, Sagwell will also discuss what kind of high-purity iron powder should be selected to improve the performance of tower saw segments when dealing with stones like golden granite, or even high-silicon sandstone with higher abrasiveness.
